Frequently Asked Questions

Who are the participants on our teen programs?

Each group is typically made up of Jewish participants from all over the world, predominantly from the US and Canada. Participants range in age from 14-18 years old (graduating seniors included). Groups are created to be as geographically diverse as possible (i.e. no large clusters of participants from the same city). We also take care in ensuring an even age distribution within each group and an even ratio of boys to girls.

Who is the staff?

Each group will be accompanied by 2-3 staff members at all times. The Israeli staff member is a professional tour educator, an expert in guiding teens through the exploration of the many amazing destinations we offer. Additionally, one or two North American staff members who are over the age of 22 and have extensive experience in working with teens and informal Jewish education accompany each group. While in Israel, a fourth staff, an armed Israeli First Aid provider is also with the group at all times to ensure health, safety and security.

Is there an educational component?

Yes there is. All of our programs are combinations of leisure and fun together with deep study of our Jewish heritage, the history of the Jewish people, and the State of Israel. This is accomplished through informal interactive educational programming.

Is there a religious component?

Jewish Teen Travel, a division of Israel Way, is not affiliated with a particular branch of Judaism. Our programs explore Jewish heritage and traditions in a pluralistic fashion. Shabbat is observed - participants and staff create a Shabbat atmosphere with programs and creative services, and transportation is not used. All programs provide Kosher meals in Israel. As Kosher meals cannot be guaranteed in Europe, vegetarian meals can be provided.

What are the accommodations and mode of transportation?

In general, participants stay in hotels and guest houses (3-4 stars). Two to four participants share a room with private bath. Jewish Teen Travel, a division of Oranim Educational Initiatives, is known for the quality of accommodations used. Transportation in Israel and Europe is with chartered air-conditioned motor coaches.

What are the age requirements?

Is there an orientation prior to the departure?

On the day of departure, all program participants meet at the airport of departure for a half day orientation meeting.

Is there time to visit family and/or friends in Israel?

Yes, there is a free weekend when family and friends can be visited in ISRAEL ONLY. If you don't have anyone to visit, we will take care of you during this weekend. (There is an extra charge for this.)

What differentiates Jewish Teen Travel, a division of Israel Way, from others offered?

Not only does Jewish Teen Travel, a division of Israel Way, differ by the quality of our staff and the educational components included in our programs, but we also have Israelis Inside™. We show you Israel and the world through the eyes of Israelis, with specialized Israeli staff and programming. While in Israel, participants also have the opportunity to tour together with Israeli peers for an entire week.

Jewish Teen Travel, a division of Israel Way, considers security as its top priority. We are in contact with the Israeli authorities with regard to all sites visited and routes traveled.
